When you get into Dover you will run into traffic. It's a given for every festival around. The most traffic will be Friday morning-late friday afternoon. DelDot does a good job at monitoring traffic and controlling traffic flow.
There will probably be 2-3 gates that will be open to the camping areas. Getting here early doesn't mean you'll have the best spots. Being from the area I plan to get in line at 7 or 8 am.
If you want to hang out Thursday night there are plenty of parking lots around. Theres a Wal Mart in north dover and the mall is right around the corner. There is also a target and a kmart a few miles south of the festival that will have a grocery store in it by July.
There is a Acme right by the race track. It will probably be packed with people. If you need any last minute items I suggest going to Wal Mart in Dover or drive 20 minutes south to the Camden Wal Mart.

Little known fact. Dover hosts Nascar twice a year. The entire area can survive a whole year off of those two weekends, including all businesses. Can you imagine what the Firefly Festival will do for our itty-bitty economy...

Hey Paul, mr. Firefly. Are you going to host a message board meetup?

I've given my number out to a few people. If you are interested in meeting up then it can be arranged!

Not sure if you will know the answer to this or not Paul... but thought I would ask. For simplicity sake, I was thinking I might park my car at my brothers house and just have him drop me off and pick me up when I am ready to leave. Do you think he would have to drop me off at Dover Down's casino or do you think he would be able to take Leipsic to Persimmon Tree and drop me off by the entrance gate?

Traffic is going to suck. So if I were you/him I would get dropped off somewhere still within walking distance but not right near the festival

This info is from today's article in the local paper:
DelDOT will close Leipsic and Persimmon Tree roads near Dover International Speedway starting at 1 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Roads will reopen at the end of each day’s events. Campers should approach via Leipsic Road (Road 88) and check in at the Lot 1 entrance. Other festivalgoers should use the main Dover Downs entrance.
